Chairs, lamps made of used pens, mirrors… These are just a few examples of the objects on display at the annual Buenos Aires “Puro Diseno” fair.
SOUNDBITE Designer from Art and Trash
When this fan broke, we decided to make something out of it, and we turned it into a lamp.
Everyday, tons of garbage are thrown away in Buenos Aires, without any further treatment, plugging the city and polluting the river.
Designers concerned with ecology engaged on a new tendency: recycle used material into fashionable objects
SOUNDBITE Fernando from Neumatica Accesories
To avoid having people use plastic bags, thrown away by millions and causing major damage to the environment – it’s the worst pollution there is, we suggest that people bring their own bag when they go shopping – plus, it’s very trendy!
“Neumatica accesories” is one of the sustainable businesses thriving on the ecological trend.
Deborah and Fernando collect used tyres from shops and garages, and turn them into trendy bags and belts.
SOUNDBITE Debora from Neumatica accesorie
What we do is, we recyle used tyres. used tyres take 500 years to decompose. poeple either thrown them away or burn them. but by burning them they pollute even more…
They say that every year, millions of used tyres are thrown without futher treatment.
SOUNDBITE Fernando
We know that our work will not solution the problem of used tyres, but, we believe that using design to help the environement is a little step forward.
A little step forward indeed, but in this matter, and every little step counts.
